Invisible City’s Media Circus

Invisible City's Media Circus

Media Circus, taking place in Birmingham on Friday 29th October, is an awards ceremony with a difference. Over the summer Creative Republic called for nominations in 6 catagories from across the creative sector. 117 nominations were made, and over 5500 votes cast online, with Fierce Earths Helga Henry shortlisted. Friday’s Media Circus is the culmination of the project. In addition to announcing the winners themselves Creative Republic will be launching a book of all the finalists in order to promote Birminghams’ creative industries.

There’ll also be music, theatre, food and drink, and more. Here’s a taster of what they have in store;

Bootworks Theatre:

Thanks to our supporters at Birmingham Hippodrome we have a superb street theatre installation called ‘The Black Box’ from Bootworks Theatre. A cast of 6 actors perform in front of the black box that contains the audience member(s). You can view the show from inside out or from the outside for different views of what is going on. Inside the box you view the show through 3 shuttered windows and hear the show via a surround sound soundtrack. Windows are opened at different times by the ‘stringpuller’. Very unique.

Music:

We have a selection of music arranged by Mubu, including:

* Fanfare trio
* Marching band
* Gypsy trio
* Kora
* Accordion-Violin

The Invisible City Awards:

Our resident Circus Ringmaster will announce the winners of the six categories from the Invisible City project.

Food and drink:

Food and drink will be available from the newly opened Fazeley Social in the studios.

The Circus Theme:

Thanks to Plumerella we have our circus folk resident throughout the evening, including stiltwalkers, the ringmaster and fire eaters…

The theme for the night is Creepy Victorian Circus so feel free to be creative with your clothing as you see fit. It’s not compulsary but will certainly add to the atmosphere of the night, from top hats and canes to freaky clowns and feathers.

Digital City

The newly formed ‘Digital City’ group will be presenting some ideas for digital involvement with the creative industries for the coming months.

Book launch

The book that accompanies the project – Invisible City – is going to be launched on the evening containing all the finalists from the project.

Tshirt/Poster Printing

Thanks for our friends at Inkwell we will have some special themed tshirts and limited edition poster prints available to be printed live and bought from the circus on the night.

It’s all taking place at Fazeley Studios. For more information and to book tickets visit http://mediacircus2010.eventbrite.com/
