BE Festival, Birmingham’s European festival of theatre, dance and performance, launched in 2010 with the ambition of “making Birmingham the home of European performance”. Applications are now open for 2011 and companies from across Europe are invited to apply.
Fierce Earth, through it’s annual Fierce! Festival, has brought many international artists to Birmingham including Nicole Blackman, Ron Athey, Benjamin Verdonck and Osseus Labyrint (above). It’s great to see that BE Festival are working to keep the opportunity of seeing international work alive here in Birmingham.
This year’s festival, which is returning to A.E. Harris as well as the re-opened mac (Midlands Arts Centre) and taking place in July, will have the theme ‘Crossing Borders’ and will introduce two prizes, judged by a panel of arts professionals. The Development Prize will provide “financial support for the winning company … a rehearsal residency and full-length production of the winning piece at mac as part of BE 2012”, while the Touring Prize will support an international tour of theatre festivals.
For details of how to apply go to http://www.befestival.org/how-to-apply/. The deadline for applications is 11th March 2011 and selected companies will be provided with accommodation and meals as well as a festival pass. All enquiries and applications:firstname.lastname@example.org
